Mario Aschauer

Mario Aschauer was born in 1980 in Linz/Donau. He received his musical training in organ, piano, harpsichord and fortepiano as well as conducting at the Linz Bruckner Conservatory and the Mozarteum Salzburg. In 2008, he received a Ph.D. in musicology from the University of Vienna.

Mario is founder and director of the Ensemble NovAntique Linz, a period instrument Orchestra and Chorus specializing in the performance of late 18th century music. He also gives concerts internationally as a soloist and chamber musician on historical keyboard instruments, among others as a member of the Calamus-Consort which has been awarded first prize in the international H.I.F.-Biber-Competition in 2009. As a consequence, the ensemble has been invited to many renowned early music festivals such as Resonanzen Wien, Bach-Fest Leipzig, Brunnenthaler Konzertsommer and Itinéraire Baroque Brantôme.

As a musicologist, Mario works for the New Schubert Edition at the Austrian Academy of Sciences and as a part-time lecturer at the University of Vienna. His research, publications and editions are mainly devoted to the history of European music and its performance practice between 1600 and 1900.
